principles

What We Believe

Abundance Strategies brings the following principles to all our engagements. We believe they are essential to ensuring organizations are equipped to grow and sustain their important work while reducing the strain that fundraising often creates.

  1. Mission Driven

We are a mission driven firm. We work with progressive organizations that are making a difference in the fight for democracy, justice, equity and a healthy planet.

  2. Culture of Abundance

Our goal is to support clients to implement successful fundraising programs. We train staff, build systems, and work behind the scenes to develop the skills and structure needed for sustainable, diversified resources. We expect to end our engagements with our clients fully able to carry out the fundraising strategy and continue to grow.

  3. Capacity Building

We believe that good fundraising is both an art and a science. By developing strong systems and processes, and implementing them with accountability and regularity, an organization greatly increases its chances for growth.

  4. Systematic

Abundance Strategies carefully considers organizational capacity, the environment, the issue area, the pipeline of prospects, staffing, and a number of other factors in crafting our development plans. We make sure that our recommendations are realistic, based on data, and immediately actionable.

  5. Reality Based

We continuously assess our impact and evaluate whether our clients are achieving the needed results. We ask whether our ongoing efforts continue to provide a return on investment. We also recognize that while we have extensive experience, we can always learn. We welcome input and maintain an open mind.

  6. Integrity and Humility

We continuously assess our impact and evaluate whether our clients are achieving the needed results. We ask whether our ongoing efforts continue to provide a return on investment. We also recognize that while we have extensive experience, we can always learn. We welcome input and maintain an open mind.

Abundance Strategies Fellowship Program

Launched in 2020, Abundance Strategies’ Fundraising Fellowship trains, mentors, and supports the next generation of fundraising professionals. We believe that developing an inclusive pipeline of fundraisers and supporting young fundraising professionals is critical to the success of the progressive movement. We strongly encourage people from diverse backgrounds including people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, veterans, and others from historically underrepresented communities to apply.

Abundance Strategies works with an expansive portfolio of progressive nonprofits addressing issues such as climate change, democracy, economic policy, reproductive justice, community economic development, healthcare justice, and much more.

Our immersive program provides fellows with a holistic understanding of the fundraising field and helps to develop important skill sets. It also offers an opportunity to connect with other development professionals. Fellows are trained on prospect research, foundation and corporate fundraising, development communications, cultivation and stewardship, and events and immediately put that training to use.

In addition to the training and skills development, Fellows work directly with a few Abundance Strategies  clients.  As part of this work, Fellows will:

  • Attend client and internal team meetings
  • Train with Abundance staff on client engagement
  • Conduct research on high net worth individuals, corporate philanthropy, and private foundations
  • Draft meeting agendas, notes, and follow up
  • Draft other client deliverables including communications, emails, and literature.
  • Learn and practice essential skills including project management, managing up, effective communications, and database management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired:

  • An interest in working in the progressive nonprofit or political sector
  • Proactive and positive attitude
  • Eager and quick to learn
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently but collaboratively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented and dependable

Applicant Availability

The fellowship will run for 10-12 weeks from late May through early August 2023 (exact dates to be negotiated with selected fellows). Strong preference will be given to fellows who are able to complete the fellowship in person at our offices in downtown Washington, D.C. Abundance operates on a hybrid schedule with virtual days Mon/Friday and in-person work Tues-Thurs. Proof of vaccination – including at least one booster shot – is required for all in-person staff.

Compensation

Fellows will be compensated at $17/hour. We will also provide a stipend for transit costs within the DMV area. Fellows are required to have a minimum of 20 hours per week. The schedule and daily hours will be contingent upon the fellow’s availability.

To Apply

Please apply here. Feel free to email jobs@abundancestrategies.net with any questions or concerns. Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, March 1st, 2023.

Abundance Strategies is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
